The Boys and Girls Club of Cheektowaga Timeline and Contributions

The Cheektowaga Boys and Girls Club is the result of years of combined efforts from state and local government officials, private citizens, and local businesses. The Cheektowaga Boys and Girls Club is slated to open September 2021.

Timeline

July 2018

The Cheektowaga Youth Foundation (CYF) recognizes the need for a Boys and Girls Club in the Town of Cheektowaga and begins the effort to open a club.

September 2018

CYF presents the idea of the Boys and Girls Club to the Cheektowaga Town Council, along with results from a study conducted by Hilbert College student Danielle Diati. The study highlights community need and the potential impact of the club.  The Cheektowaga Town Board offers its support and signs a 5 year lease agreement allowing the Boys and Girls Club to call the Alexander Community Center home for no cost.

April 2019

NYS Assemblywoman Monica Wallace announces securing $100,000 in state funds to assist with initial operational costs.

May 2019

CYF members tour the Depew-Lancaster Club to gain ideas and build the relationship between the two locations.

August 2019

Speaker of the NYS Assembly Carl Hastie and Majority Leader Crystal Peoples tour the facility and offer support to ensure that the Boys and Girls Club opens.

October 2019

CYF identifies a sub-committee and solicits the help of local community leaders in establishing a fundraising campaign.

March 2020

COVID pandemic slows fundraising efforts and forces the club to delay its initial opening date. The subcommittee continues to plan and build momentum.

October 2020

The subcommittee finalizes a new fundraising campaign and identifies possible corporate partners within the community.

December 2020

The subcommittee is successful at identifying numerous private donors within the community and reaches its fundraising goals.
